I never imagined that his essays are better than his novels. But they are. It.s refreshing to see someone who.s not making a god out of Kipling because he has a Nobel.

Such,Such Were the Joys...: I can't say that I liked this essay. It was hard to "witness" the brutality with which schooling was handled at the beginning of the last century.
