I have to agree with other reviewers. This book was good but not as good as the first book. I didn't like that the potential deepening of a relationship but put on hold for some (to me) obscure reason. It just seemed like a ploy to keep us interested in the story. 3-1/2 stars.

I find Veronica quite maddening sometimes but her faultless logic is entertaining and the hoops she makes Stoker jump through are fun. The two of them spark well and this was an involved and messy murder mystery that involved the crown, again. It will be interesting to see where the author goes fr...

While Victorian England is not generally my go-to time period (Usually I am a sucker for anything Tudor-Era or Dark Ages), one Miss Veronica Speedwell is quickly making me think I should venture out of my bubble more often. This is the second novel in the Veronica Speedwell series. It is just as muc...

A Perilous Undertaking - Deanna Raybourn So entertaining! I read and listened to this one, but seriously, the narrator OWNS this series. She's so great with all of the voices, I can't even do them justice in my head. I love when that happens. LOL Anyway, Veronica is up to her old tricks a...

I've been looking forward to this second book for months and while it wasn't quite as good as the first book, it definitely wasn't disappointing. In the first book, startling revelations about Veronica were a big part of the plot, and Stoker's past was shared in teasing bits here and there. I sup...

Raybourn's books usually sweep me right in but it honestly took me a few false starts and a couple of chapters to really get into this one. Once I did though, I was glued to it through the end. I think Veronica and Stoker are really the highlight of the series. Their personalities and the dynamics b...

A Perilous Undertaking is the second Veronica Speedwell mystery by Deanna Raybourn but my first introduction to the character. Other than the phallic humor which is a bit much, the characters of Veronica and Stoker are delightful and the story entertaining. Although the second in the series, the sto...

This review can also be found at Carole's Random Life.I enjoyed this book but I didn't think it quite lived up to the first book in the series. I had a really hard time getting into the book at first but once the story got moving, I found myself really enjoying it. I think that the characters in t...
