Well that was bloody. I found the book as a whole to be a bit of a slog, although not as bad as that field at Agincourt. The battle itself was interesting, and I liked the character of Sir John Cornewaille, but I wasn’t terribly enamoured of Nick Hook, the main character. I actually found the wh...

I found the idea of writing a book centered around the events of the Battle of Agincourt to be a good one, but I just think it wasn't a particularly strongly written story. I felt little to no sympathy for the characters and the plot was rather confusing at times. If Cornwell is supposed to be the k...

I would like to write a brief review of Bernard Cornwell's Azincourt. The narration is excellent and the characterization is strong. However, I found the writing to be a bit muddy at times, which almost prevented me from finishing it half-way through. It was that painful at times. The storytelli...

Very well done. Captures the gory details of medieval battle, and more interestingly to me, the characters seem medieval (rather than modern) in their thinking. The voice of Saint Crispin (& Crispinian) in Hook's ear was very nicely done. Cornwell seems fairly scrupulous in terms of historical accur...

Good enough, but Cornwell has written enough great books that you can probably skip this one. Guess that comes with the territory of being a consistently competent writer in a genre that is so full of dreck.

Not much of a plot here, Henry V goes to France to take w...

I just love good historical fiction! It brings history to life for me in a way that those boring history lessons at school never did. My favourite writers in this genre are Conn Iggulden and Bernard Cornwell, although there are many others who light up all of my lights. There are many books about the...

Tom Clancy goes medievil, or how I learned to stop worrying about the French and use a crossbow. If you like military narratives based on well researched and documented historical facts, you'll like this one. Cornwell has a long list of historical novels and this one shines but warning, it is very l...

Excellent page turner of a book. Follows one Nicholas Hook, Archer, from trouble on the Lord's estate to trouble in London to joining the king's army in France. He survives these adventures, and the road leads to Agincourt (the title uses the spelling of the French village, rather than the usual Eng...
