Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Richard Russo: "Empire Falls" (ISBN 13: 9780375726408; ISBN 10: 0375726403)

Marcel Theroux: "The Confessions of Mycroft Holmes" (ISBN 10: 0156007436; ISBN 13: 9780156007436) -- starts in London but soon moves to Cape Cod

John Irving: "The World According to Garp" (ISBN 13: 9780345915597; ISBN 10: 0345915593), "A Prayer for Owen Meany" (ISBN 13: 9780552135399; ISBN 10: 0552135399), "The Hotel New Hampshire" (ISBN 13: 9780345400475; 034540047X) and "The Cider House Rules" (ISBN 13: 9780345387653; ISBN 10: 0345387651)

Also, virtually every Spenser mystery by Robert B. Parker (the first one is "The Godwulf Manuscript", ISBN 13: 9780440129615; ISBN 10: 0440129613).

And more literary classics:
Henry James: "The Bostonians" (ISBN 10: 0141882603; ISBN 13: 978 0141882604) and "The Europeans" (ISBN 13: 9780140621952; ISBN 10: 0140621954)
Edith Wharton: "Ethan Frome" (ISBN 13: 9780142437803; ISBN 10: 0142437808)
Plus pretty much every book by Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne (except only for "The Marble Faun"), and Louisa May Alcott (in her case, with the exception of her thrillers, for which she considered her home town / state too tame a setting)
Murder by Death
Got most of these - when I created the list I didn't know how broad MR and OB wanted to be regarding plot. (I didn't know if ANY book set in New England would qualify, or if it was supposed to be a book that qualified for the other squares AND was set in New England.) Since I'm on the ass end of the world ;-) and my day is everyone else's night, I just stuck with the spooky stuff to be safe.
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
"Empire Falls" isn't spooky, and I specifically asked about that one to test the limits (in the comments section of their combined post on New England, I think). MbD said it's fine for both "Fall into a Good Book" and "Set in New England." So spooky doesn't seem to be a requirement here.
Murder by Death
Good to know, thanks for clarifying. I'll try to add more Hawthorne later today (I have to go prep my lounge for sofa delivery; gotta move that beanbag out of the way, lol). :)
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
You have real life chores and you're hanging out here? Wow. :)
Murder by Death
Chores or BookLikes, Chores or BookLikes.... BookLikes EVERY TIME! lol. ;-)

Although I did get everything ready and in place. So now it's more BookLikes, only guilt-free. :)
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Woohoo! :D
Libromancer's Apprentice
A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay

Horror/suspense AND set in New England
Murder by Death
Added. :)
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I'm going to be reading Crow Hollow, by Michael Wallace, for this one. Both a mystery and set in colonial Massachusetts.
Murder by Death
Added. :)
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
Also qualifying:

The Final Judgment, by Richard North Patterson. (This is a legal thriller/mystery set mostly in New Hampshire or Martha's Vinyard, in Massachusetts.)
Murder by Death
Added. :)
