Temperance Brennan, like her creator Kathy Reichs, is a brilliant, sexy forensic anthropologist called on to solve the toughest cases. But for Tempe, the discovery of a young girl's skeleton in Acadia, Canada, is more than just another assignment. Évangéline, Tempe's childhood best friend, was also from Acadia. Named for the character in the Longfellow poem, Évangéline was the most exotic person in Tempe's eight-year-old world. When Évangéline disappeared, Tempe was warned not to search for her, that the girl was "dangerous." Thirty years later, flooded with memories, Tempe cannot help wondering if this skeleton could be the friend she lost so many years ago. And what is the meaning of the strange skeletal lesions found on the bones of the young girl? Meanwhile, Tempe's beau, Ryan, investigates a series of cold cases. Three girls dead. Four missing. Could the New Brunswick skeleton be part of the pattern? As Tempe draws on the latest advances in forensic anthropology to penetrate the past, Ryan hunts down a serial predator.

This was a pleasant read, but not the best mystery. There was no urgency. Nothing to keep me reading. I continued because I'd started it. It was the first Temperance Brennan book I'd read -- after watching the show "Bones" for years. I enjoyed this Brennan, very different from the tv show, but I nee...
This book was fairly disappointing. I find that even though I love to read book series, eventually they all start to fall apart. In this latest novel about Temperance Brennan, I found that the developments in her romantic relationships were thrown in for shock factor more than anything else. It was...
An interesting book by Reichs..not my favorite of hers, but up there. After the last one in the series, though, this seemed like a nice break from really heavy reading.
This was a really well-written mystery that kept me entertained on the 10 hour drive home this weekend. Listened to the audio version - the actress who reads this novel does a fantastic job. Lots of exposure here to Acadian culture, somethign I knew little about, and the works of Longfellow.
