Helena lost her family and her friends when she married Roger. She never doubted her choice, but war is hell on marriages, especially when you lose.As a veteran on the wrong side, Roger can either go through reeducation--a program which will likely destroy his mind--or he and Helena can hide out among the asteroids and half broken space stations of their defeated land, constantly looking over their shoulder until the day comes when he is caught and executed.Determined to remain together at all costs, they choose a third way--a dangerous five year journey into the future. Things start to go wrong when, against long odds, Helena finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. With limited resources and no way to shorten their trip, Helena and Roger make due, working every moment to find what they need to survive.
