Many readers found this book engaging. Lippman set herself up with a challenge: the main character may or may not be who she says she is, and without knowing her or trusting her, we have to empathize with her enough to like reading her story. Opinions seem to vary on whether she is successful in mak...

As is the norm for Lippman, this book is well-written. However, I found that for me, the "twist" could be seen from a mile away, there wasn't enough suspense, and the ending just wasn't that plausible.

The protagonist is hardened by life, and makes for a interesting saga.

The plot could have been ripped straight out of an episode of your favorite television crime drama, and the writing is full of tired cliches and mixed metaphors, but, if you have four hours, and want to immerse yourself in a good crime novel, this is one for you. Frankly, aside from the above issues...

Penelope Jackson is the name on her ID, but when a woman has a traffic accident in Baltimore and is taken to the hospital, she is revealed to be someone else entirely. She claims to be Heather Bethany, the younger of two sisters abducted in 1975. With parallel time lines we see both the efforts of c...
