Christopher Sharrett is a film critic and professor of film studies at Seton Hall University. He frequently contributes essays and reviews to Film International (online and print), Cineaste (online and print) and other publications. He is influenced by Claude Koch, a poet, critic, and novelist who was his professor of English at La Salle University, and by Robin Wood, the renowned critic who authored crucial studies of Bergman, Hitchcock, Hawks, and other directors. Sharrett emphasizes in his criticism the principles of close reading and evaluation developed by literary critic F. R. Leavis.
