I ditched facebook and never started with twitter. It's just too messy and the adds were bloody annoying. GR is going the same way. When it becomes more noise and crap than books, then I leave. Simple as that.

Nope nope nope.
Ahhh! No! I am not good with those things. I remember my daughter trying to explain what a hashtag was! It was awful!
Agree, agree, agree! The thing with tagging is, just like the @ing issue, it ties people into things without their permission. I rarely use FB, but I do untag myself on stuff when someone has tagged me, and it's a dang pain in the butt. Plus, people do it in replies to you in discussions - even though it is completely unnecessary, because you get a notification of the response anyway - and the person tagged cannot remove the tag! Urgh! And if you ask people to not tag you they act like you're a completely unreasonable and ridiculous person and do it anyway.

I'm against anything that takes control of our accounts, notifications, links to our profiles, etc. out of our hands and puts them into the hands of someone else who can do it to us regardless of our settings and in spite of our wishes.

I fucking hate Facebook. I always panic when I get a notification that I've been tagged thinking it's one of my crazy relatives set out to do me harm (or even more frightening that my mother has joined Facebook to do me harm) If they want Facebook, they can stick to Facebook. I don't want to worry about that stuff on GR.
I also hate it when I've been tagged in stuff. That just helps FB datamine you - gathering info about you - and I'm VERY careful about putting any personal stuff on FB. Great when friends and family help them out by tagging you in stuff *sigh*. Then I have to go through and untag everything.

And when strangers do it when replying to your posts, like a group discussion, it's VERY annoying (to me) and completely unnecessary. You already get a notification they're replying to your post. So, it serves no purpose there. The only time it's helpful at all in discussions is to give someone NOT in the discussion a heads up about a conversation they may be interested in. Which, is a big problem on using it on GR. Additionally when someone tags you in their post on FB you cannot remove it! And if you ask people nicely to please not tag you in replies they act like you're completely insane and just ignore you.
