Me too, I'm probably not as stringent on what makes a 5 star read for me as some, but I don't read, rate or review for anything other than my own pleasure and if a book grabs me and makes me laugh or cry or just totally loose myself in it. It's going to end up being a 4 star for sure but if I feel like I got just that something extra from it and I think that 10 years from now I'd read it and feel the same 5 stars it is. This one had some minor editing mistakes but nothing that ruined the story for me and it was just a total treat to read and I really liked all the characters in it, not that I didn't want to give them a good shake once in awhile but hey we sometimes feel that way about the people in our lives too, so I think if you feel that way about book characters the author has done a good job and in a way brought the story to life for the reader.
That makes sense! I balance quality with enjoyment, although I've been lucky. Rereading my favorite sister series, I'm reminded that I love them for both quality and just pure enjoyment. And we never rate books the same way, I think. We find something new, or notice something we don't like, or something on re-reads.
It's why I'm writing brand-spanking new reviews for these.
True, but I find that if I like a book enough to re-read it I may find more reasons why I liked it but I don't ever think I've re-read and book and thought "geez, what the hell was I thinking?" I'm not really prone to re-reading so the book has to be epic for me to actually do it. I know there's actually a very small group of books that I've re-read more than once (I think there's maybe 6 or less) My benchmark on how much I like an author and the quality of their work is the fact of whether or not I will buy their books in hard copy there are a very, very few who I will do this for consistently and I'm talking new releases here not discount table. They are limited to Greg Iles, Sharon Shinn, Terry Brooks and I believe that's it. I have other books that I've bought in hard copy but it's been more a case of a specific series and not an author (Like Jacqueline Carey, I have her Phedre, Imriel & Moirin Series all in hard copy because they're basically connected, but I really haven't bothered with any of her other books they just didn't interest me the way these books did.)
That makes sense. Nostalgia propelled me to reread the Vampire Diaries.
And I'll say it - what the fuck was I thinking? I occasionally do reread and get disappointed. But not too, too often. I'm rereading all my TF books, though. Because, just basking in that love right now :D And I know I enjoy most of them, so...
That's ok, some of the books that I gave 5 stars to when I first read them are totally on a mental 'do not re-read' list for exactly that reason. I know if I re-read them I will be sitting there going "WTF? Was I drunk or on drugs when I read this?" so every once in a while when I stumble across one of them I carefully step away from the book or e-reader as the case may be. I figure why mess with things and spoil a good memory.
Yeah the good stuff, let's face it sex sells and we can all use a little sexy in our lives from time to time. Now run off and check out my new post because I'm excited and want to share...
