He did occasionally wear tweeds in the TV series, but always with a bow tie: http://www.gentlemansgazette.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Tweed-in-the-Country.jpg

I will have to do some research! To me it looks like a grey suit, not necessarily tweeds. I shall report my findings later.

I agree. I always thought Poirot had more empathy than Holmes, and not even he was entirely bereft of emotion, no matter what he occasionally said about himself.

I just thought that it was details like this, like Poirot's attire, like how Poirot would refer to himself and others, that weren't quite right - and that really made the book into something completely different.

On the other hand, I guess my estimation for AC's attention to detail, and especially her paying attention to how important such details are and how they can change the mood/tone of the book completely, has increased infinitely.

I just still can't believe that someone who is meant to be an AC expert can get it so wrong.

Also, I just found out that Osborne novelised two other AC plays: Spider's Web and The Unexpected Guest. They're now on the "I'd rather not" list.
