I never would have guessed that even a place as cold as the UK would have trouble dealing with snow! :)

We just don't do snow. The UK is not actually that cold. I grew up in Germany and by comparison to the winters there, the UK is quite mild in winter (and pretty cold in summer - the flip side...). It's the maritime influence. But as a result we get a lot of rain, but not much snow. So, when the snow does hit, everything comes to a standstill.
