I hate that anti-Christie cliché about her allegedly stereotyped characters. Talk about pointing one finger at others and four fingers at yourself ...

Yup.
These two are really some of her worst works. The Woman in Cabin 10 makes zero sense if you think about it long enough and The Lying Game was bad.
The Lying Game was definitely the worst of the three. If I want to read about four girls with a big secret, I'll stick to Shirley Conran's Lace. That one is way more entertaining. And you could have steered a cruise-ship through some of the plot holes in Cabin 10.

Oh, god, I absolutely detest the "if you like Christie, you'll love this" label. It's usually written by someone who wouldn't recognise a Christie if it hit them on the head. The same with other "if like x, you'll love y" descriptions. As if all Christie readers love the same aspects of her work....Gaaah!

I have yet to try Ruth Ware. I am intrigued, but only because I had (deliberately!) not read any reviews comparing her books to Christie's. That would have been an instant "nope. go away!" from me.

I DNFd The Woman in Cabin 10 as soon as the drunk as a doornail main character made her appearance. Which was on page 1. I think I read at least to page 5 ;).

I really liked Ruth Ware´s "The Death of Mrs. Westaway", though.

I'll just skip these then. Too stupid to live is important criteria in my selection process.
