If it's any consolation, I used to work with a chap who was convinced Laurie Lee was a woman. But then, I have to confess to believing Flannery O'Connor was a guy.

Well those orange Penguins didn't always have author photos, so perhaps we can shift the blame ever-so-slightly. And my old O'Connor books don't have a picture either (but they do give it away via pronoun, though perhaps not all editions did)!
