Interesting about the cover.
There's a huge thing, apparently, in obscuring the ethnicity of non-white protagonists, especially for US books...I remember it came up in Nix's Surfeit of Princes and Aaronovitch's Midnight Riot. Yeesh.
And Justine Larbalastier's (or however it's spelled) Liar, and Karen Lord's Best of All Possible Worlds..

Omg have you seen the German cover of Best of all Possible Worlds? It's even worse whitewashing than the American one.

Yeah, it is. And I'm trying to do a better job of calling out instances when I find them. Because LAME.

No kidding. Ugh. I sincerely doubt the American reading audience is as racist as the publishers seem to think. Grr.
