I had the same experience with the audio. And that was despite my being a big fan of the narrator. ;)

Ah, not just me, then. I feel slightly guilty for not loving the whole thing because I adore Stephen Fry, but not even he could stop my eyes from glazing over toward the end.

Greek Myths tend to be repetitive - (1) woman pisses off Hera (usually by sleeping with/getting raped by Zeus), Hera turns woman into cow or other animal. (2) Monster needs slaying - send Hercules. (3) family drama / soap opera ;)

LOL, true story. At least he saved most of the "Monster needs slaying" repetition for the next book.
Yup, I had the same thoughts about this one. I preferred Heroes, but even that couldn't escape the repetition. I'm now hoping for a book about the Trojan War.
