Oh, it's not the insects. I'd mind if the whole book were dealing with nothing else (except if it were bees), but not as long as there are other critters in here as well. It's more a matter of being in the right frame of mind for anything other than pure escape literature, due to heavy and seriously unpleasant real life interference.
