I also have this on my TBR! It's massive. It will take a few weekends!

Doesn't it look good? But yeah, it'll take a few days to get through :)

It does come highly recommended, tho. A colleague of mine (Australian) loves it. Are the silk roads something you have a special interest in?

Oh good! A personal rec beats even a Guardian review :) I don't have a special interest in the sense I've travelled the Silk Road or studied it, but mention it in anything - TV show, book (obviously), song - and I'm hooked. I love the sense of cultures interacting and trading for so long and how ideas, religion, plants, even silkworms, migrated. If I was way more adventurous than I am, I'd take this new train along the Silk Road http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-16/first-silk-road-train-arrives-in-iran-from-china/7170540

That train looks great. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that I'll be riding it either.
So, we'll have to make do with the book. Oh, well....
Happy travels from the comfort of your armchair. :D
I'm going to have to add this to my TBR. I know next to nothing about the Silk Roads but now...interest piqued.

Do! But be warned, Mary. The Silk Roads are addictive :) All those fabulous, romantic cities of legend are real!
