Once I actually try out some of the recipes, I might post an update. You'll like it. It has a whole chapter on meringues that makes them seem like the easiest thing in the world.
I love cakes as well. Since I'm vaguely settled in the new flat (i.e. I will very likely stay there for more than a year) I even bought a mixer. So: Yay! Cake!
I just made Zaga's Honey Cake. Burned it slightly, but it could be due to my laissez-faire attitude towards measurements more than anything else. The scraps are delicious, though.
