I used to be that way too because only certain types of women read romances--cue stereotype! Well--as someone who's been married (mostly!) happily for 20+ yrs and with that same guy for coming up on 30 yrs who swore she was never going to read those things--now half my books are romances and I'm a book cover peeker in the real world so I for one am glad people still read real books :D

I read secondhand romances in my teens because they were available everywhere, but then I got all collegiate and snobbish. But like you, married 23 years, and the past couple of years I've really returned to romances in a big way. There's something about half-dressed cover models that just makes me feel, improper.

I'm a book cover peeker too! There was a lady in the hospital waiting room yesterday who must have been about 80-ish and as she took her book out of her bag I almost had eye strain trying to see what she was reading from across the room. I was just about to go and sit over closer so I could see when her name was called and she got up to leave. As she was going with the nurse she was saying, "Ooh, I was just getting to a good bit! It's about vampires! It's soooo good". LOL! I love that she was in her 80's and reading vampire romance! Wish I knew which one it was though :/
