I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Barbara Michaels is also the author of the long running Amelia Peabody mystery series, under the name Elizabeth Peters. She had a Ph.D. in Egyptology! FYI!
The first of those is Crocodile on the Sandbank, and it is very funny.

And her most popular contemporary series are the Vicky Bliss books. Vicky is a Medieval art historian and by book #2 is working at a museum in Munich, Germany. She acquires a less than honest (or successful) antiquities dealer as a love interest along the way which makes for lots of witty dialog, nefarious scrapes and adventure in settings like Italy, Sweden, Bavaria and Egypt. The series is great fun with plenty of laugh out loud humor.

I liked the Vicky Bliss series even more than the Peabody series, although I'm in the minority there. ;)

I like both series equally well. They're light and fun.
She also wrote another mystery series, the Jacqueline Kirby series, a contemporary series with a librarian detective. (The ones I've read are from the early 70s, but I believe she kept writing them at intervals into the 90s.)

The second one amused me in particular because it's set at an English country house (what setting could be more classic?) with a particularly nutty clan of Ricardians in residence.

That's the only Kirby book I haven't read. Jacqueline is my least favorite of MPM's female protagonists.
Thanks for letting me know! I would definitely like to try some of her other books. She was an easy read. I am curious to see if I will connect better with other characters she's written. This lot, in Ammie, Come Home, were a bit of a struggle. :)
