I checked your spoiler, finally. I don't know why that wasn't a bigger issue for more people. Maybe the author glossed over it well enough that it didn't really sink in?

I´m at a loss here myself. I don´t think that she glossed that much over, but I don´t know how some people tend to read short stories (maybe they just skimmed over the story).
