I saw the film but based on your review, I don't think it did the novel justice. Bronte and Austen on the rocks with a splash of bitters sounds like a perfect holiday libation.
The book is darker, and has some surreal/futuristic elements that were omitted from the film.
This one came at the right time for me; I was ready for something less demanding, less depressing.
