Didn't like this one either, but I will forgive Trollope anything simply for his tackling the damaging effects of forcing marriage on women (in the Palliser series in particular)

I agree, I don't know if any of his peers (including George Eliot) approached the problems as directly as he did. If the results were sometimes conflicted like with this one, the effort still counts.
