I think that if I had been reading a bound version, I might have been tempted to skim in places. I understand why the parts I found dull were left in, because it was critical to the allegory (if that's the right word for it) that Pi was creating for the true story. But I think it would have been a better book if the author had let some of that conceit go and tightened it up a bit.
