I'm possibly overreacting about the passive-aggressive notes of how to support an author, but I'm pretty confident I'm not out of line on the other matters ;-)
To their credit, they don't say HOW to review - just that you should, if you "loved" the book. *headdesk*
I get a bit twitchy about the "how to support authors" posts too, even though I've actually seen readers ask authors "How can I best support you? Which format/store/etc. would give you the biggest cut?"
I know the "how to support authors" stuff is really aimed at their family and friends who don't know much about the book world. But as someone who's been blogging and reviewing for years - UNPROMPTED - it comes across as erasing the stuff I already do without being prompted to. I mean, sure, it would be nice to get a thanks, but what I really want is to not be nagged at to do stuff.
