I saw it, and was sure you could handle it. As you did, very well. You even gave him a moment to think about what he'd said. I thought he'd come back differently, and when he did not, but instead insisted? I was glad you zapped him. He had even dropped the N-bomb. I could not believe my eyes.
You handled it with class.
I would have kept it posted if I really believed that person was truly confused or was interested in a real discussion, like the comment before it. However, it was obvious this person was just using my blog as a soapbox. I'm not going to let them do that.
"Educate me" is a common troll tactic. Or "I know I'll be attacked for saying this..." I did not see your post or the deleted troll comments—but, I'm guessing one of those two tactics may have also been used.
You nailed it. I left up the separate comment that they made saying something along the lines of "I debated about hitting publish because I know it could be misunderstood..."
Such a great point. We should make a list of common phrases and tactics used by trolls. Maybe someone's already put one together. *goes to search for it*
Check blogs by author John Scalzi's whatever.com, Jim C. Hines, Stacia Kane and others if you want some funnier ones. Plus Derailing for Dummies is free online. And the Flounce BINGO card in that megathread on goodreads that I reposted [http://donealrice.booklikes.com/post/571245/reblog-a-response-for-the-epic-flounce-from-a-discussion-] -- because the trolls usually have some parting I'm-now-the-victim or I'm-above-all-you-bullies shot before flouncing off.
Hear! Hear! Delete is the way to go. Unless on a site where only members can comment (on those sites first send a screenshot to support and then delete; very few sites permit hate speech in their TOS).
(Although on sites where you can " quote" or edit the trolls -- I also like the "kittening" that author John Scalzi uses so that "you €%#!?*" becomes "oh how lovely I too love unicorns and rainbows..." types of super sweetness in place of the hate.)

Thanks. :)

Thank you.
