That was amazing, and I had no idea the "Women on Youtube" panel had been fazed down to that level. That's appalling to say the least, and especially for the number of people who wanted to be a part of that panel - you would think it'd be more of a priority. To not even include it as a part of the main schedule in this last year also got me as well.
Very awesome that this young lady spoke up about it. I took a lot from her video.
I had seen some sarcastic remarks about it made by a few of the female Youtubers I follow last year, but I didn't know it was on the front lawn or had a progressive down-sizing. It's disgraceful and both Greens should ashamed of themselves. I mean, seriously, how is that being feminist allies by any stretch of the imagination?
Even when I was a part of the women's leadership panels at my university, at the time there were always efforts made to make every participant in women centric events feel like their voices mattered - presenters and participants alike. I specifically participated and volunteered my time in venues specific to health and wellness, but there were many choices and opportunities for women to speak up regardless of their trade, topic of presentation or background, and even those that were specific to women of color or GLBT centric events. Even if the rooms were too big for the groups that we had, we always made sure that we had more than enough to provide for the people attending (though sometimes you can't gauge just how interesting a topic will be!). We usually did have a lot more people than expected at the seminars we held, whether it was about sexual assault or breast cancer awareness or a number of different things.
It just boils my blood that the Greens, who are in charge of this aren't doing what they can do to make sure this is provided for. For claiming to be feminist allies then doing this kind of thing? Indeed, they should be ashamed.
It's huge, and vibrant and skews VERY young. That's one of the reasons I've been watching this controversy so closely and talking about how it impacts John specifically. Youtube gave him a platform to talk directly to a young kids and teens, not as an adult or uncle, but as "a nerd just like them." It gave him unprecedented power and influence, his lack of direct dealing with the sexual abuse that directly impacted young girls is extreme problematic given how many young people hold his opinion higher than their own in these kinds of situations.
Not to mention, how I believe this crossover popularity has propelled him into a greater media spotlight and played a big part in his status as the savior of YA.
Yeah, most media covering the YA genre, and his impact are totally in the dark on how much the Youtube/Nerdfighter community plays a HUGE part in the popularity of his books. There was a HUGE marketing push for TFiOS on Youtube and social media associated with the Nerdfighter fandom. John did a contest for fan created book covers, and even posted previews chapters of the book being read aloud by him to his Youtube channel. There was fan art for the book even before it was released. That played a BIG part in the sales and success of the books. I've seen people on Tumblr who don't watch Youtube and don't read YA who have read the book because of his fans on Tumblr and other social media talking about it so much.
Well said, exactly. THIS is the kind of reaction videos that the Greens should be making. Simple, straightforward and useful. Thank you for reading and watching the video. :)

I've subscribed to her channel. She's amazing.
