It's associated with the Detection Club discussion group (http://booklikes.com/groups/show/1012/the-detection-club) -- which in turn is the product of some of us having read Martin Edwards's "The Story of Classic Crime in 100 Books" and "The Golden Age of Murder" last fall, which made us realize just how many Golden Age crime writers there were that we hadn't read yet (or had never even heard of to begin with).
The 24 named squares on the bingo card match up with the 24 chapters of Edwards's "The Story of Classic Crime in 100 Books"; the idea is to read one or several books mentioned in the respective chapters of Edwards's book for each square. -- The books mentioned by Edwards, in turn, are listed in the reading lists linked at the end of my post.
This isn't a bingo game as such, though; at least not one with any sort of competition or pressure to it -- the bingo card essentially is just a fun way of tracking our reading progress.
Yes to both! It's mentioned in the "Play Up, Play Up, and Play the Game" chapter (no. 4), and in fact MR even took a snippet of its cover to create that particular square on the bingo card, I think. So I think it's fair to apply it to that square.
This will be my first read by Crofts, but I've followed your updates and based on that, I am very optimistic! :) (I'd been eyeing some of his other books anyway, too, so MR's "buddy read" post was very timely and à propos for me.)
Yes -- I'm glad we decided to approach this without a fixed schedule, and I'm very happy with the experience overall ... and there are loads of more books from the period I want to explore. But as a format to get us started it has pretty much run its course, and of course there's always a certain sense of satisfaction to the completion of a project (even if, like in this case, it's really only part of a much more comprehensive project as far as the exploration of late 19th century / early 20th century crime fiction is concerned).
Congrats! Classy marker and a task well done! I hope you continue to enjoy your Detection Club/Golden Age crime fiction reading this coming summer, too.

I've got a reading list for Summer of Sherlock already (which also includes ACD's / Holmes's contemporaries and rivals -- http://booklikes.com/apps/reading-lists/984/221b-baker-street-and-beyond), and I'm in the process of putting together a sort of "Detection Club bingo" follow-up blog post where I'll continue tracking my Golden Age mystery reads.
I'm also really curious what MR is going to come up with next, though, as she hinted in her above comment!

Not surprisingly, I'm considering a new card for myself, or something else that I haven't quite identified . . . with new categories, to keep reading.
