If you're starting to find history interesting then for entertainment you might like the 16xx alternate history series by Eric Flint (the co-author of the Belisarius books) . You can get them free from http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/ It's a legal site and the publisher is fully aware of it's existence.
Thanks! I actually downloaded a few of the Assiti Shards (1632, etc.) books several years ago from the Baen Free Library. They do look really interesting. I’ve especially wanted to read them since I enjoyed the Belisarius series so much.
I keep putting them off because of how long the series is, and I think it’s still ongoing? According to Goodreads there are 17 core books and 58 (?!) total books if you count the companion series (Ring of Fire and Grantville Gazette). I’m afraid I would get lost and never find my way back out. But once I get through the “low hanging fruit” in my backlog (standalones and books that are part of shorter, finished series), 1632 is at the top of my list.
Of all the Baen links I have, I’ve never seen that one before. Thanks for sharing it! It looks like it might have the same books as another link I have (http://baencd.freedoors.org/), but the site you gave me looks a lot better organized and easier to navigate. I’ve bookmarked it and I’ll scour it later to see if it has anything I’m missing.
