Well, he's not actually a doctor, but he's got healing powers. And usually, I find those don't come with "powerful-in-a-kickass-way characters", at least not in the stories I've read so far. The only exception would be in traditional RPGs, perhaps, with mace/staves being the weapon of choice for clerics/healers, but even then, they tend to be pretty squishy nonetheless. ^^
