It is NOT her best book, but the trick of making you anxious for murderous morons is there

It's there in all the books by her that I have read. The Price of Salt/Carol being the exception in that there is no murder but still I found myself rooting for an unlikeable character there, too. This one was the weakest, and yet, like you, I kinda like it for its stupidity.
I have The price of Salt pending. Entered my radar not long ago, and bumped up when I found out it was about a lesbian relationship.
Yeah, the characters stupidity is pretty much what drives the plot

I loved that one and remember foregoing sleep on a work night to finish it. It is one that gets a lot of hate from some reviewers, tho.
Glad I read it but still want to throat punch Guy.
Oh yeah. By the middle, I could not decide which one disgusted me more

It was definitely Bruno for me. I kept thinking that if Bruno hadn't been rich, he would've been the main character on an episode of Criminal Minds. I hated him so much that I would've pushed him off the boat myself.

I hated Guy, too, but with much less fervor than my hatred for Bruno.
I despised them both, and in real life, I guess I would hate Bruno more because he was so disturbed AND disturbing, but I hated Guy for being to yellow bellied as to not kill the little shit instead of his father.
@Moonlight you are right. Bruno is straight up Criminal Minds material. There was so much messed up with him I needed a longer post.
Polarizing reads are always interesting. Given the author and the subject matter, I could not see it coming any other way.
