A sensationalist one?
I had problems wrapping my head around this one too. Actually the second one as well. West has a lot of weird characters - I didn't like any of them.
Yeah, this is my first exposure to West - I picked this up because I have this vague goal of reading through a list of 50 cult novels. Whatever my expectations were, they have been annihilated.
