You should check out a few episodes of Castle, i dont believe its necessary to watch them in order. like criminal minds, there's obviously back stories going on but usually something separate takes point. I'd check out... season 3, its far enough in that they have gotten over little bumps and hiccups but not so far in that if you wish to continue watching the series you'd have serious spoilers.
plus i wouldnt mind knowing how similar the books are to the show. they do come up occasionally on the few episodes I've seen, but they dont go into great detail.
My interest IS growing, so I may check out the series at some time, though I'm OCD enough to start watching any series from the beginning regardless of bumps and hiccups--I don't think they'd bother me too much. Each book is supposed to tie into each season of Castle, so I think it'd be interesting see how it ties in.
Though I don't know how well I'd do, I think it'd be fun to do a series of comparison posts for each book and corresponding season of the series.
I do recall one episode where the killer had read Castle's books and started killing people based on it. that was a rather interesting episode.
