"Easy in that Clive Barker is a poet as well as a novelist."
Very well said - great review. His Imajica is one of the few books I reread on a regular basis, for much the same reason you described. A poet's voice and a magician's eyes.
Fabulous review of one of my all-time favorite reads. Hellraiser was also my "first date" movie with my now husband. He let me pick the movie and failed to tell me that he'd never even seen a scary movie. When it was over, all of the color had fled from his face and he didn't speak for awhile. Haha, the memories. He knows better than to let me pick the movies these days!
Once we got past my wife introducing me to her mother as "Bill" instead of "Bob" I knew we'd be able to work through anything . . . although her hatred of anything science fiction does test my patience sometimes. Fortunately, I've already got our toddler hooked on the Star Wars: Rebels cartoon, and she just can't tell him 'no.'
Ha, soon you'll be two against one! I trained my son to love all things horror but my daughter will have nothing to do with any of it so it's all evened out.
Our eldest is all over the map with his tastes, and at that awkward teenage point where he's too cool to be seen in public with mom, but will still catch an action flick with me.
I had a heckuva chuckle reading these anecdotes :) Unfortunately, I don't have anything funny to add :(. My wife likes "found footage" style horror but didn't enjoy Hellraiser when I made her watch it "to round out your cultural literacy".
I'd forgotten how long that one was. And how it bordered on the pretentious!
