The theatre group scenes are important because of the Hamlet connection, but reading it this time around, they really dragged. Glad you liked it overall, tho.
I didn´t even knew about the theatre group in Hamlet, so I didn´t get this part at all. The Macbeth referernces worked better for me, having watched an atrocious Macbeth production in my local theatre.
I haven´t watched the Fassbender movie, but I´m pretty certain the theatre production was worse than the movie.
It´s been a modern German production, so of course the witches were prancing around in the nude and one of the kings son was a total nut job in this production. He was repeatedly chopping of the head of a teddy bear. I can´t even remember why he did that. But I guess that would count as butchering the play in your book, BT ;D. At least I think they butchered the play.
Yep, sounds like a typical modern German production.
Interestingly, one of my hometown's local production did give the witches clothes, but had Banquo prance around in the nude. It was a good production, tho.
I don´t get why the Germans are obsessed with actors being nude. I´m glad, though, that the production was a good one. It´s not something you can expect of German theatre.
Erm, I haven't been in a while but the ones I have seen (and I used to go a lot) were pretty good.
I really can't speak for any recent developments, tho.
My local theatre is very good when it comes to their musicals, operas and everything related to music. I have yet to watch a decent play. But I have to say, I´m not going to the theatre very often, so I shouldn´t be too judgemental. But they certainly suck at performing Shakespeare.
America leaning heavily toward Puritan views has my mind boggled at my local theaters ever performing with nude witches. Enjoy the freedom of your nudity obsession, lol.
Those scenes really dragged for me, too.
I love Macbeth. It pains me when people butcher the play.
