Eh? That was random. Is this part of a major plot development in this book?

No, I don´t think so ...

But I was puzzled at first as well. They are on a military vessel and I found it odd that someone from the military felt the need to find out if a 53 year old psychologist has a problem with women being on board. Which didn´t make sense, because if someone has a problem with women on board, it´s someone from the military. And then it dawned on me what the author actually was trying say.

This book is from 1987 ... it´s fair to say that it hasn´t aged very well.

The trick to enjoying the book is to read it young enough that you don't notice all the crap and just get involved in the weird sphere. It did not age well on reread.

Well, let´s see if I´m going to stick with this book to the very end, then.

It´s quite similar to Jurassic Park in the way the story is structured, beginning with the weird science mumbo jumbo and the setup of the group. And once again, the mathematician in the group is the odd man out.

I remember there being some interesting bits, but also a bunch of stuff that needed a blind eye turned to it...
