When I was very little my dad read aloud to me books for his dissertation. Which of course I don't remember at all. (I did pick up vocabulary words and Greek names from later bedtime stories, but that didn't hurt.) So you can always cheat a bit on what it is you're reading out loud in the early days!
The best way for your kid to love reading - everyone will tell you that reading along with him/her is important. It is, but there's something just as important. If you and your husband and any other family members read your own books in front of the child, if there are times when the family is reading - your child will want to imitate that. Especially if it's what they see you repeatedly do for fun.
Thanks so much for the advice! It makes me feel better to know that it's okay to read books aloud that I'm reading anyway, at least at first. My mom had told me that even before the baby is born I should be reading nursery rhymes and I was just like "...really? The baby's REALLY going to know the difference?" lol. And the baby will most definitely see me reading my own books. As for my husband, that's a different story... he is NOT a reader!

And happy new year!
Happy new year to you, too! :)
