I first read Maus when I was in middle school and read several times after that. I recently bought a used copy and you are making me want to reread it.
At 11, when I first read it, I think it made history really accessible to me. I also read Maus 2 several times. I have not read it as an adult, but I bought it thinking I might want to eventually.
I hadn't even realized there was a second Maus book until I tagged the first in this entry! I'm requesting it at my library right now and I'm adding it to this month's list - since it's a graphic novel, I don't think it should take too long to finish.
That's what I did! Do you read a lot of graphic novels? I don't, but I'm trying to start, since they're so popular with reluctant readers and I feel like I need to be more familiar with them, haha. Okay! I actually find Holocaust books fascinating, too - I don't know that I'd say I enjoy them, because they're often so disturbing, but it is a super important part of history and there are some really great books out there about it. Have you read The Book Thief? If not, I recommend it! It's great!
I have a really hard time getting into graphic novels, because I'm not really used to thinking of them as "literature," but I'm trying to read more of them because I'm going to be children's/YA librarian, and the kids LOVE them. Hence why I'm reading Maus, haha. But it actually is pretty good so far!
Historical fiction is my favorite! My all-time favorite era is Tudor England, but I'll read just about any historical fiction novel I can get my hands on. Graphic novels (so far) are not my favorite, but then again I have read a grand total of 2, so I definitely need a bit more exposure to them, lol. And thank you! I'm very excited about it :)
