That's disappointing, especially the thinly veiled sexist religious stereotypes. Your reviews of the previous two books made me excited to start this series, which I will as soon as I get through more current reads, but I will keep in mind this book is weaker in comparison.
Broken Angels is definitely the strongest, but I'll be interested to hear what you think if you get a chance to read them. The nice thing about them is that they are mostly stand-alone-ish

Right on. I went on a Morgan kick a few years back, and this is one of his weakest. The corporate road warrior one was worse. Still, when he's on, he writes really great violence.
Nice to know I'm not alone, because there were a bunch of 4-5 star reviews! Good to know about the road warrior one--I think I'll avoid it. He does write good violence--this one reminded me of The Matrix by then end.

I liked the first two of his fantasy series - come to think of it, the third is probably out now - but a lot of people were put off by how grimdark it was. You know, junkie elves and a lot of brutality. But the magic is obviously technology - the whole "indistinguishable from magic" thing - and our main dude is both gay and a stupendous badass. It's kinda great.
