have you read th first books in the series? (I got first one as a kindle first freebie and keep meaning to start it.)

No I haven't. I figured it wouldn't matter based off the summary because it looks like it's suppose to be a prequel. If you do read it let me know how you like it. I think I've developed a bit of a block around this book, but I do want to pick it up again some day.
