You're not alone -- I vowed to never go near this story again, too. (Also, yey for the ending ...!!)

Shadow is beautiful. (Yey for black cats. I used to have one, too ...)

Thank you -that's my baby! : ) Good to know Im not the only one who didnt like it. figured I would be the minority since he'so well known and liked but that story made me sick though just even reading it. I liked the ending too though-thankfully he got what he deserved.
I like quite a few of his other stories (not necessarily "Murders in the Rue Morgue," either, but chiefly for the solution in that case) -- but I seriously don't think you're in the minority as far as "The Black Cat" is concerned!!

That's good to know : ) Did you notice how he supposedly the man went 'home' after he found the second cat but on the page before his house burnt down? Im.still wondering about that. Lol
Frankly, I was too angry and disturbed on Pluto's behalf to notice much else of the story ... I just kept thinking "I hope this guy gets his comeuppance at the end, big f*cking time!!"

It was awful! You know I had planned to read another one of his stories "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" but after reading this one I said forget it. There's no telling what it's like & I do not want to find out. : )
It's one of the earliest mystery stories. Luckily no cat abuse!
