I'm both surprised and not surprised, somehow. I've been trying to diversify my own reading, since I came across Book Riot's We Need Diverse Books initiative, but have found that most recommendations are for children's and YA lit, rather than the general adult fiction and mystery/thriller/horror genre fiction that I generally prefer. Or for self-pubs and Romance, which I avoid.
So, I guess I thought that there would be more diversity in children's lit, at least.
