Hmm maybe Next Door? That way you can see if someone posts about this and you may get some unbiased commentary back about what's going on. One of my childhood friends lives in Philly and she talks all day about posting on that site. She's had issues with neighbors leaving garbage in her yard and apparently this neighbor kept doing it to her and other neighbors and also was mistreating her dog. Besides neighbor scuffles they do mention businesses, close/openings of stores, etc.

Thank you. It's been driving me crazy. A neighbor up the street is friends with the owners (which means a degree of bias) so she says one thing, and then you hear something else from the protestors. Supposedly, the place is going to reopen tomorrow with free pizza and beer as the owners stand by to take and answer questions.

I'd be more worried about it if you recognized the protesters or group as being involved in the community or even just in other causes/protests. It's not like you are crossing a union picket line by patronizing a local business owned by members of your community--well, unless he gets AFL/CIO involved. Sounds like right now you have one stranger's word for it with a bunch of buddies to help him protest.

You might be able to find out what "certification" he didn't get. If they require of their other employees in same position to have or be pursuing that certification, then I'd lean to their side unless he shows he has that. Some of those certifications might come from brief county/city/state required seminars on food handling safety -- I'm on the side of restaurant owners wanting kitchen staff to go through that.

If anything else comes out, re-evaluate. Just because he's a disgruntled former employee doesn't mean he's not right. Just because a business does something to mollify customers/community after a racist remark doesn't mean they've reformed.

But I don't see how you can know one way or another without more information or more folk who would know supporting his claim he was fired because of race/religion.

I'm a little leery of protesters ever since there was a month of a bunch of them here picketing the wrong business -- not even in same industry -- over some safety shoe requirement the factory owner tried to implement.

Then there was the idiot drunk on a forklift at the airport that killed someone and was given a choice of being fired or going into a substance abuse program -- there were protesters supporting him. Unfortunately, I saw the dead body and had zero sympathy -- but that's a way clearer picture than what you have.

Thanks Debbie. It was a kitchen service certification, supposedly (according to someone who knows the owners). He wouldn't answer questions at first. Just stood at the trolley stop across from the place with tape over his mouth. Everyone thought it was about the comment from a few years back. It was until after he was there for about two weeks that the story got out. Still no local news coverage.
