Yay!
That's the thing with short story collections, tho, some stories are just better than others. And some stories appeal to different people more than others.
I'm so glad you liked it.

Exactly. As I said, overall it's left a lasting impression. I really want to get to The First Person soon. I'm starting to like short story collections more and I''m thinking it might go nicely along side Love in the Time of Cholera.

That does sound like a nice combo.
What's turning you off short stories? Or is it the collection aspect?

I'm starting to like short stories more.Whether or not they're collections is irrelevant. Previously I didn't mind them all that much, but have always preferred novels (for the usual reason) as short stories are over so fast! I'm going to check whether the library have TFP now. I don't think they do, though.

This one is on my TBR pile. I read “Autumn” last year, it was an original look at an imagined PostBrexit Britain. It want a conventional narrative structure and it made me wonder if she’d started with short stories.

I think she might have. I think novels came later. Her first novel, Like, is probably the most conventional. When I read that one I was wondering if she'd chosen that narrative form to fit the novel format, rather than to bring over some of her idea from the short stories.
However, I think there is a visible development in her short stories, too. The early ones aren't as quirky as the later ones. At least not from what I remember.
