Quiet gentleness. That is exactly it. That's a perfect description. It's nice. One has to be in a mood for quiet, tho.

I'm starting to notice a few problems with it now, unfortunately. It's nice and gentle, but I've noticed a couple of inconsistencies and 1 highly melodramatic bit. I wonder if you spot the latter, too :)

I've just come across the man with Alzheimers and his letter. Is this the bit?

Yes, but not the letter per se. It was the reaction of the 2 others present. It wasn't the content of the letter, but rather the reaction afterwards. I suppose I got it wrong when I said it was melodramatic. It was more that it was written really badly.

It is written really badly. He should have stopped after they read the letter, not explain the letter afterwards. It seems fairly patronising.

However, I think this will make for a great book to discuss at the book group.

Oh yes, stopping after the letter would have been much better, to leave things unsaid can be more satisfying. Yes, it'll make for a great discussion.
