I liked this book too. Apparently there is a TV series in the making.

Is BBC doing it? If so, it could be hilarious ... (All love to my country's entertainment mega industry, but if the US does it, it's gonna suck.)
Yup. BBC and the company founded by Terry Pratchett and his daughter ("Narrativa").
There is. And I agree, MbD, the audio is a riot. Rumor has it that the guy who does Crowley in the audio (Peter Serafinowicz) is going to be in the TV series as well, though in a different role, but I can't find any confirmation of that. In the TV adaptation, Crowley will be played by David Tennant. (Yey! And Derek Jacobi is in as the voice of the Metatron! Hooray!!) Truly looking forward to its release!

Well, hell - I might have to start watching TV again next year. Although I hate that Amazon is playing a part in this. Michael Sheen is exactly what I pictured while listening to Aziraphale, but taking NOTHING from Tennant, I'm not sure about his Crowley. It's 100% likely though that this is because I was picturing Rickman - and nobody can follow Rickman.
True, Rickman would have been perfect for the role. :( That being impossible (unless he pulls a stunt that would, of course, be entirely consistent with this book), I'll happily take Tennant as a replacement ...

I won't be watching this on TV -- for many reasons, only one (though for me, a major one) of which is that it'll be broadcast in Germany dubbed into German, as are all foreign language productions. I'll just wait for the DVD to come out and watch it that way -- in English.

Do they still use the same 4 guys/girls to do the dubbing? It was pretty wierd listening to the same handful of voices doing a mulititude of differnt shows.

The link you provided mentioned a global TV distribution, so I hope to be able to catch it here, but saying that, I don't watch television, so unless they take out billboard ads on my route to work, it's likely I'll miss the airing announcements. :p

We will remind you... if I remember. ;)
@Elentarri: I have no idea (and couldn't care less), beyond the fact that a fair share of German actors make a pretty penny out of being well-known international actors' "German voices." They're (roughly) the same age as the people they dub, though, so at least a few of them have died in recent years -- and often, their obituaries are the first time I'm hearing that in addition to their actual "on screen" successes they also used to be "the German voice of [international star xyz]".

@Elentarri: lol... deal! ;)

DJ as the Metatron? Yay! That could be interesting, too. I love Peter Serafinowicz - he can be hilarious.
Yes to both! :D Did you ever listen to this dramatization (the one with Serafinowicz as Crowley)? It really is hilarious -- not least on his account ... and I also love the way in which they even manage to integrate the Pratchett-esque footnotes into the audio script.

No, I don't think I have. I have just seen him in lots of other things.

@TA re footnotes: That would be interesting to listen too. The footnotes are important (or at least amusing) in Pratchett books.
Exactly! That's why I was so thrilled they actually did this (not with every footnote, obviously, but with some of the really important ones), and also with how seamlessly they made it work.

I loved this book! My version wasn't a dramatization - I've never been able to like those - but just the book read by Martin Jarvis, who did an excellent job.

I need to check out which version my audiobook was...I think it might have been MJ, too. It was really good.

This was the first dramatisation I really truly enjoyed. I'm still going to keep an eye out though, for the 'regular' audio; maybe someday it'll find it's way down here.

I was just thinking I'd like to read this book - I never did. But then I didn't borrow it from the library... Maybe I'll see if I can get my hands on this - sounds wonderful. (Or should I read the book first at least?)

I didn't and don't feel like I missed anything. This was the only audio version I could get (because Australia is the armpit of the planet when it comes to digital rights, apparently), so I have nothing to compare it to. But it was excellent - my only complaint about it was it was originally aired as a BBC 4 radio series and was released in the same format, so after every 'episode' there's a list of credits, meaning you hear a long list of narrator names 6 times. I could probably have skipped through that if I wasn't in my car though.

Thanks. I will remove the book proper and substitute this on my wishlist! Thanks! Yanno another good BBC full cast dramatization is Hitchhiker's -- hilarious and very fun in the BBC version.
Murder by Death 7 years ago
I might have to give it a try - I've always been drawn the Hitchhiker's humor, but shied away from the whole sci/fi space thing (I *really* get bored with space). A BBC dramatisation might be the perfect delivery system for me - thanks! it's a brilliant idea and I'll go look to see if any of my libraries have it. :)
