I could do with one of those too, but they'd have to work at best-mates-rates. And I probably need his cousins new-kitchen-fairy and new-bathroom-fairy first. If I'm being a responsible homeowner and all.
I'm hoping this weekend we'll get the next corner all fitted out and ready for the shelves; the neighbor kept everything setup, so hopefully when he gets back into town, cutting the shelves should go much faster and then things should really start to move. ::fingers crossed::
HA! Don't worry, there's enough truth in that question that I only threw a NewScientist Magazine at you. ;-)
I'm keeping my vertical book spines/racks, and there are at least two bookcases MT and I are determined to keep *somehow* in other parts of the house. How this is going to work, exactly, without a wand from Ollivander's, is a mystery, but if we make it work, there will overflow capacity - or more likely those shelves will house all MT's books, or all the reference books, or ...something.
Overflow capacity?! ... LoL. Sure.
Those new shelves are looking gorgeous, tho. All that effort has certainly paid off, even alone with the ones that you've put up already.
What excellent new use for a giant slab of solid hardwood! Is "all around the room" going to mean "all around the room top to bottom", or just "all around the room" on the top level just below the ceiling?
All around the room means every wall from the ceiling down, except the one behind me in this picture, and the one to my left; on those walls most of the shelves will stop about 25-35% from the floor, in order to accommodate the new furniture, and I'll be working my vertical book spines into the layout too**. That's the biggest reason we went with this shelving system, instead of building out cases; this way we can cut the shelves to flow around the furniture.
It's not quite the look I wanted, though I really like the way the wall color comes through, but I have some ideas long term on how to better camouflage the hardware. And I think the hang rail system is going to give us opportunities to be more creative, assuming I don't have everything covered in massive stacks of books within the year. :p
**This assumes the wood holds out - if we run out of wood, we'll re-configure and work in one of the bookcases.
Ambitious -- but it'll look fabulous when it's done, I have no doubt! (It's already looking great, but I can just picture those walls of books ... swoon.)
Thanks everyone - it's not what I originally had in mind, but it will be a lot more flexible, more efficient, and hopefully won't make the room as dark and heavy as my original plan would have.
But seriously, now that you have floor space available, what books are you going to get next? *BT ducks*
