Oh no, that's so pants! Do you have some sort of window of time for a refund if you turn up with your student id? That controller sounds like a total douche.
First thing tomorrow I'll go to my university in order to get a new student ticket, both for the new semester (which starts tomorrow) and for the last one as well, because this actually had to happen on the semster's last day., and I had to lose both IDs... No idea if they'll do the latter. No idea how much that will cost. Meh. And the lovely German Rail doesn't do refunds, they "grant" you a reduction of the fine...
Srsly, I can't even remember the last time I saw a ticket inspector before today, and then twice on the same day?! On the only and first day I was without a ticket?! Grrr.
