That sounds like so much fun! I'm serious BTW :D
I'm dividing hard back from paper back, tall paper backs from standards, creating different shelves for different genres, pairing themes, and alphabetizing by author while sorting by size, series order, and publisher.
We are remodeling so ALL my books are in boxes. When they go back on the shelves they WILL be organized by author. My virtual books are in order of receipt unless I go searching for one that has a review deadline.
Yeah I love doing shelf shuffles. I take everything off, strip the shelves bare and start over with a new way of organizing my books. The shelf I keep specifically for new print purchases and ARC's etc has a specific order of being organized according to the date of request made by either the publisher or the author. If there hasn't been a specific request then its simply by receiving order in the mail. The book donations I get from people who don't want their books anymore are organized in after those. My digital library is a tad more complicated... lol
